EVE LAWTON

I was born and raised in the Northern Beaches of Cairns, in Tropical North Queensland – a region teeming with agricultural richness and artistic vitality. My hometown, surrounded by lush citrus groves and majestic mountains, was a canvas of nature's beauty. Raised in a family of creative women, I was nurtured with a deep appreciation for colour and taught to admire the intricate details of the vibrant greenery around me. My grandmother and great-grandmother were both oil painters, and growing up surrounded by their work, I felt an undeniable pull to explore my own artistic expression.

The inspiration for my art stems from a vision I’ve always held close – a dream of a home bathed in sunlight, where rays dance across every curve and surface. A space where tabletops are adorned with fresh-cut flowers and citrus from the garden, and the air is filled with the soothing aromas of chamomile and freshly baked banana bread. It's a home brimming with art on every wall, overflowing with trinkets and vibrant colour, a true reflection of life’s beauty and warmth.

Inspiration and Artistic Mediums

Inspired by the vibrant colours and textures of nature, I draw much of my creative energy from the lush hinterland around me, where citrus trees and wildflowers thrive. The warm, sun-kissed glow that dances across fruit spreads and beautifully set tables evokes a sense of comfort and joy – feelings I strive to capture in every piece I create. My hope is that these creations bring a touch of that warmth and energy into your space, making it feel like a little slice of nature’s beauty, whatever room you are in.

I choose to work with oil paints for their rich, vibrant pigments and the depth of luminosity they bring to each piece. The nature of this medium allows for a subtle, glowing finish that adds life and dimension to my work.

Texture also plays a key role in many of my creations. I often begin with a layer of plaster, which not only provides a solid foundation but also adds an extra layer of depth and energy. This tactile element transforms a simple composition into something more dynamic, inviting the viewer to experience it from every angle.
